Rockdale Summitt: Walking the ridge top of Rockdale Trace in southeast Lewis County (which boasts an elevation of 1060 feet above sea level) and hiking down into the valley, it is hard to imagine that this quiet and majestic land with its spectacular views was once a busy thoroughfare for hauling iron ore from Napier mines in middle Lewis County to the furnaces in the once thriving communities of Sandy Hook and Rockdale some five miles away. Long ago playing out and years of grueling labor forgotten, any remnants of settlement homes evaporated with history on this ridge road we now call Rockdale Trace.  

Rockdale Summit is an 85 acre tract that extends from the top of the ridge to the creek in the valley below.  You have to really look hard to find a place on this property that does not unveil the beauty of nature. Vistas, springs, and natural habitat decorate this diverse landscape.  

Along the bottom of the valley runs Bigby Creek.  Its quiet flow is interrupted by a cascading spring waterfall and steep outcrops that cause your mind to wonder back to years gone by. The splendor of this setting is a must see.  

Providing an added dimension to the beauty of the area is a raised railroad bed that runs alongside the creek. This railroad dates back to 1888 and continues to make its journey once a day.

Pleasant providing basic necessities for the residences of this area.
